The County's 192-bed Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson is the flagship of a comprehensive local health-care industry. CMH is one of the County’s largest employers, with 1,000 people on its payroll. 136 physicians and surgeons and 194 nurses are associated with the hospital. The hospital offers emergency, medical-surgical, cardiac rehabilitation, psychiatric, and long-term care services.
In the north end of the County, the gleaming new Valatie Medical Arts center has gathered several doctors and support-service providers under one roof.
Long-term care is supplied by several nursing homes, including the County-operated Pine Haven Home in Philmont, the Whittier Nursing and Adult Home in the Columbia County Commerce Park, and the Livingston Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Livingston.
Columbia County has nearly fifty country farm markets and orchards, many of them specializing in organic produce.
The Old Chatham Sheepherding Company is the largest sheep dairy farm in the United States.
